We’re exhibiting at IFE Manufacturing 2026 at ExCeL London from 30 March to 1 April, and we’d love to see you there. You’ll find us on Stand N678.

IFE Manufacturing is the UK’s leading event for food and drink manufacturing, bringing together producers, suppliers and industry leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the sector. For us, it’s the right place to be talking about one of the most overlooked risks in food and drink trade: tariff code accuracy.

Why classification matters for food and drink

Food and drink products are among the most technically complex to classify. The tariff code you assign doesn’t just determine the duty you pay, it flows through your entire supply chain, affecting landed cost calculations, margin forecasts, pricing decisions and supplier negotiations.

Small differences in how a product is prepared, preserved or packaged can shift it between tariff headings entirely. Sugar content, fat percentages, whether something is baked or fried, retail or bulk packaging, all these details determine the correct code. If you get it wrong and the cost compounds across every shipment and every SKU, it can often be years before someone notices.

When we audit businesses, we typically find that 2 out of every 5 tariff codes are wrong. In the food and drink sector, where product complexity is highest, the risk is even greater.

We’re trusted by leading food and drink brands including M&S Food to deliver tariff codes that are 99.9%, and as a result, we were named FDEA Export Service Provider of the Year 2025 in recognition of the role we play in helping UK food and drink businesses trade with confidence.

We’ll be talking about this and more at our stand throughout the event.

Elizabeth Davies will be speaking on the Business Growth Stage

Our Head of Customs Compliance and Classification, Elizabeth Davies, will be speaking at IFE Manufacturing on Day 2 of the event as part of the FDEA seminar programme on the Business Growth Stage.

Session: Reducing Export Friction: How Defra & TariffTel Can Help You Trade Smarter
When: Tuesday 31 March, 11:00 – 11:45am
Where: Business Growth Stage, ExCeL London

The session will explore what’s being done to reduce the friction food and drink exporters face in international trade, and where to turn for practical advice and support. Elizabeth will share insight on the classification challenges specific to the food and drink sector, how accurate tariff codes support smoother trade, and the role technology and expert oversight play in keeping businesses compliant.

If you’re a food or drink manufacturer, exporter or importer dealing with the complexity of tariff codes, this session is well worth attending.
